Rasta Mon Day [Randy Valentine – “Poor Man’s Love”]

Chocolat 11/10/2014

Rasta Mon Day [Rasta Monday] was created to celebrate Reggae and Jamaican music. With a focus on Rastafarian influenced sounds, the theme also introduces readers to Ska, Roots, and Rocksteady. It is not centered around the Rastafarian movement or spiritual concepts associated with it. Do fulljoy the sounds, lyrics, and influences of Jamaica’s unique sound.

Randy Valentine is a Jamaican born singer song-writer/ producer. Named RV by his friends, his laid-back approach to life can be hypnotizing once your drawn into his world. I first heard this track “Poor man’s love” on David Rodigan’s BBC radio show and was immediately hooked! The track has such a “sticky” melody it easily carves it’s way into an already great catalogue of songs on this riddim.

Taken from the “Bring back the love” mixtape which was released for free in 2012. “Poor man’s love” tells a fresh story of a man with little money but loads of love. RV has taken a classic and made it his own. Big ups to the yout for reminding all of us that love has no price. The video was shot and edited by Snowpix Media in london and features model Kayzee. Enjoy!
