Culture was a Jamaican roots reggae group founded in 1976 and they were originally known …
H arrison Mills (aka CatacombKid) and Clayton Knight (aka BeachesBeaches) began recording together after meeting at Western Washington University. There was instant chemistry and the pair worked prolifically, quickly carving out a distinctive, heady sound: glitched-out vocals, soaring, visceral melody and ear-gripping drums. Two songs from Summer’s Gone – “How Did I Get Here” and “iPlayYouListen” – instantly leapt to number 1 on the Hype Machine Popular Chart. ODESZA began to make evangelical fans, with word of their music setting the world – both real and virtual – alight. With the release of their new album “In Return” they are touring and working with a host of like minded artists to remix their singles.
Speaking of remixes, we came across this amazing rendition of “say my name (feat. Zyra)” from Australian Producer Hayden James. Although having only released his first track in late June 2013, he has already amassed a million plays across Soundcloud and Youtube for his work. Producing immense summer jams with soulful and evocative vocals his music has stockpiled consistent rave reviews from the US, Europe and Australia alike, being labelled the “face of the new Australian production music scene”.
The track carries a refreshing summer sound packed with brilliant chord progressions. As you weave in and out of the swells, triggered vocals, and piano runs, you get replanted by subdued claps to level you off again. It’s a great remix and it didn’t stray too far from the original, which I am always a fan of.
Big ups to Hayden James and ODESZA for this wicked track. Grab the download above!
